Tax Claim

The Tax Claim Office is responsible for the collection of delinquent school, municipal and county real estate property taxes and it prepares and conducts County tax sales. The office’s mission is to maintain public records of all real estate which possess unpaid taxes and to issue tax lien information when real estate is transferred accordingly.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

The 2024 Upset Tax Sale will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 in Courtroom #1 of the Cambria County Courthouse.  The sale will begin promptly at 10:00am. NO ONE WILL BE PERMITTED INTO THE SALE AFTER 10:00AM.  REGISTERED BIDDERS SHOULD ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EARLY TO GET THEIR BIDDER NUMBER AND GET SEATED PRIOR TO THE AUCTION BEGINNING.  The preliminary list for the Upset Sale appeared in the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, the Mainline Newspaper and the Legal Journal on Thursday, July 11, 2024.  Because this list changes constantly as taxes are paid, it will only be available below on July 12, 2024, August 5, 2024, and weekly on Mondays thereafter until the final list on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the close of business.

Bidder registration for the Upset Sale was held from Monday, August 12, through Friday, August 23, 2024.  Bidder Registration has ended.  No additional bidders will be registered.

The next Private Tax Sale will be held in March, 2025.  The exact date has not been determined.  Bids to place properties on that list will be accepted from October 1, 2024 through December 20, 2024, or until we have 50 properties for that sale, whichever occurs first.  All future Private Sales will be limited to 50 properties.  Please call the office prior to bringing in your bid and bidder registration documents/fee to see if we have reached our 50 property limit, so you don’t make an unnecessary trip to our office.  It would be prudent to bring in your bids and registration requirements earlier, rather than waiting until the last day.

Stay tuned for details on our next Judicial Tax Sale, which we hope to schedule in early December, 2024 or January, 2025.  Please note: we already have properties requested for this Judicial Sale as well as the next, so we will not be taking additional judicial requests at this time.

Please call (814) 472-1445 with questions.
